A message from the Youth Director:
One of our major goals as a youth department is to make a shul and community a “home away from home” for our children, a place where they can come to be themselves, socialize and learn the essential middot for life. We hope to make our shul a place where the children can connect with hashem and compliment what they learn in school, through davening, group learning and socializing. It is our hope that the experiences and memories our youth create at KT will help them to make an impact on the community and the world.
As a youth department we try to nurture our youth in a warm and caring environment. It is our belief that if kids love going to shul when they are young and look at a shul as a special place, they will develop a connection that will last a lifetime.
We realize that we can only be successful with the help, encouragement and participation of our parent body. We look forward to a great year, and hope to see all of our children participating in our programming.
Programming:
Shabbat Groups
Shabbat morning groups begin at 9:15 and end at the conclusion of davening. Groups are offered for children age 2 ˝ through fifth grade. The Shabbat Morning Youth Programs are designed so that the children's shul experience is as spiritually meaningful as that of the adults. Therefore, we encourage all children either to participate in Youth Groups or to remain in shul with a parent during davening. Parents are urged to not permit their children to stay in the lobby, social hall, driveway or outside during davening.
Three year olds, Four year olds and Pre-k: A well-structured group that includes: free play, simple davening, snack, story time, songs and group games
Kindergarten: Our kindergarten group is structured to enhance the knowledge and middot learned in both school and at home. This group has a more advanced davening and introduces simple parsha themes.
First and Second grade: These groups include an introduction to the new siddurem the children will be receiving later in the school year, teaching of Shabbat davening, a strong emphasis on parsha and yom tovim, as well as active games.
Third and fourth grade: There groups include a more advanced davening with a focus on learning new tiffelot monthly, a general focus on instilling proper middot and icreasing daily torah and parsha knowledge
Fifth grade Girls: Our older girls group focuses on preparing our children to participate in out teen minyan. The girls are taught how davening on a shul is done, as well as actively get involved in our current teen minyan.
Teen Minyan
Our teen program consists of inspirational Davening, Divrei Torah and Socializing. Teen Minyan takes place in the Beis Medrish and begins at 9:15. Throughout the year teens are encouraged to participate in the minyan through daven and giving devre torah. The teens are taught to be responsible for every facet of minyan and are prepared to be future contributors to our regular minyan. Parents of teens should feel free to join in and schep nachas from their children’s involvement.
Torah Tots
Torah tots is our parent child group offered to children under the age of three. Led by Zeeva Sklar, this group meets every Shabbat morning at 10:45 in the upstairs apartment. It is here that our toddlers experience their very first exposure to shul and Davening. Through the use of picture books, singing, mini torahs, marachas and more our children are taught to love coming to shul!
