KETER TORAH CHADASHOT
WHAT IS NEW AT KETER TORAH?
I am excited to announce a number of new, meaningful happenings for our Keter Torah community. With the assistance of a significant group of volunteers, we have used the summer months to develop important programs for the year 5765. The implementation of some of these projects is a manifestation of our desire to use technology to spread Torah and to bring us closer to Torat Eretz Yisrael. I have included in this newsletter two meaningful and timely articles that were made available on-line, one from Rav Michael Rosensweig and the other from President Moshe Katzav.
SATELLITE BROADCAST OF SHIURIM
ìà áùîéí äåà
After Succot our shul will begin broadcasting shiurim via satellite on the Torah Conferencing Network (“TCN”). TCN has created a network that enables the greater Jewish community to view a variety of live shiurim from the most highly regarded and accomplished Magidei Shiurim (lecturers), among whom are Shani Taragin, Rav Asher Weiss, Rav Yisroel Reisman, Rav Yissacher Frand and Rabbi Jacob J. Schacter.
Keter Torah is one of a small group of shuls in the United States that has been chosen to host these TCN programs. To be able to receive these shiurim, we will install a satellite receiver and purchase the necessary equipment. We hope to offer at least two shiurim every week. Please speak to me regarding your interest in participating in these shiurim or in sponsoring one of the lecturers. Thank you to Tom Mandel for playing such a pivotal role in helping me with this project.
SPONSOR TORAH at KETER TORAH
ìäâãéì úåøä
An additional meaningful way to commemorate the Yahrzeit of a beloved individual is now available at Keter Torah. You can link the memory of the departed one to our community by sponsoring a shiur or a scholar-in-residence at our shul. By selecting a scholar from Israel or the United States, you will help unify the past with the present and our future. The event will be well publicized, with all learning being Lizecher Nishmat your loved one. I hope that you will consider an annual lecture or weekend of shiurim as a significant way of elevating the neshama of your loved one. Please contact me with your Yahrzeit information to help determine a consequential way of marking this day. It is also possible to partner with others who are observing Yahrzeits at the same time
In addition, I have been contacted by members of our community who would like to sponsor a scholar in residence in celebration of a simcha. I am available to discuss this option. Thank you to Dov Kahane and the other members of the Adult Education Committee, Danielle Schreiber, Daniel Altman and Adam Berner, for their vision in developing our Scholar-in-Residence program.
KETER TORAH on THE WEB
We are in the final stages of redesigning and updating the Keter Torah website, www.ketertorah.org. Mark Kay and the other members of the Web Committee, David Hildebrand, Elliot Adler and Tom Mandel, have spent hours designing a site that will be relevant to members of the Keter Torah family, as well as to those interested in learning more about the shul. The site is beautifully designed, easy to follow and a tribute to the hard work of the Web Committee.
Tochnit Bat Mitzvah - Making Bat Mitzvah More Meaningful - An Interactive Program for Keter Torah Girls and their Mothers
ëé îöéåï úöà úåøä
Beginning after Sukkot, Keter Torah and MaTaN of Yerusholayim will initiate a 10 session Bat Mitzvah program for mothers and daughters in Keter Torah families. Pairs of 11-year-old girls and their mothers will study together in a Beit Midrash-Chavruta format. Debbie Baum and MaTaN have prepared a special curriculum focusing on women in Tanach and Jewish history and how their lives relate to ours today. This program has become a tremendous success in Israel and is being offered in the USA for the first time. Register via e-mail by contacting Debbie at ydembaum@aol.com.
A Note of Thanks
Best wishes to Rabbi Danny Yolkut and family on their move to Richmond, Virginia. I am personally grateful to Rabbi Yolkut for the fundamental role that he played in assisting me in all areas of the rabbinate. I am confident that the Richmond Jewish community will flourish under Rabbi Yolkut’s creative and passionate leadership.
My family joins me in wishing all of you a meaningful Yomim Noraim experience and a Happy and Healthy 5765.
Rabbi Shalom Baum
